Huggie, clicker, open hoop

A huggie is a small, thick hoop that sits close to the lobe, and our huggie sets graduate from 6mm up, so a stack can shrink hole by hole as it climbs the ear. A clicker is a seamless ring that opens on a hinged segment and snaps shut, the shape that goes in a helix, a daith or a nostril. The chunky open hoops are lobe earrings, light for their size.

Measure a hoop by its inner diameter. 6mm and 8mm sit snug; 10mm and up hang with a little air between the ring and the ear.

What size huggie should you wear in a second lobe hole?

One size down from the first hole usually looks right. If the first hole takes an 8mm huggie, try 6mm above it, and our graduated huggie sets give you both.

How do TORNITO clicker hoops close?

A hinged segment swings open, goes through the piercing and clicks back into the ring. There is no ball to drop, so a clicker suits a helix, where a lost bead is hard to find.

For a fresh piercing the association accepts steel that meets ASTM F-138 or ISO 5832-1, implant-certified titanium to ASTM F-136, niobium, solid 14k or higher gold that is nickel and cadmium free, platinum and inert glass. It says gold plated, gold filled and vermeil jewelry is not acceptable for a fresh piercing, because the plating can wear or chip off, and that jewelry must be a gauge and length that suit your anatomy. American Academy of Dermatology, Caring for new piercings. The academy advises leaving the starter earrings in for at least six weeks, night included, washing hands before touching a new piercing, cleaning it once a day with a mild fragrance-free cleanser and water, and avoiding hydrogen peroxide and antibacterial soaps. Soreness, redness, swelling or a yellowish discharge can mean an infection; a raised scar can mean a keloid, and both are reasons to see a dermatologist. Read September 24, 2026.
